How a Packard well is drilled

From bedrock to your tap

A drilled well in the Temiskaming District reaches down through soil and glacial overburden into the fractured Canadian Shield bedrock, where clean groundwater collects. Here is what happens beneath your property.

  1. Site & geology assessment

We read the local geology and lot conditions to place the well where it will yield best and stay clear of septic systems.

  2. Drilling & steel casing

The borehole is advanced through topsoil and overburden, then steel casing is set and sealed to protect the well from surface contamination.

  3. Into the bedrock aquifer

Drilling continues into fractured Shield bedrock until we reach a dependable water-bearing zone with sufficient flow (GPM).

  4. Pump, pressure & water record

A submersible pump and pressure system are installed, and you receive the official Ontario Well Record for your property.

Drilled vs dug wells

Why most Temiskaming properties choose a drilled well

Homeowners in the district often weigh a shallow dug well against a deep drilled well. For year-round, contamination-resistant water on Shield bedrock, a drilled well is almost always the better long-term choice. Packard Well Drilling builds drilled wells.

Common questions

Water well questions, answered

Q. How much does it cost to drill a water well in the Temiskaming District?

Drilled water well cost depends on how deep we must go to reach a reliable water-bearing zone in the Canadian Shield bedrock, plus casing, the pump and pressure system. Because depth varies property to property, Packard Well Drilling gives you a clear quote before any drilling begins. Call 705-647-3680 and we’ll walk you through what to expect for your lot.

Q. How deep are drilled wells around New Liskeard and Haileybury?

Most drilled wells in the Temiskaming area reach into bedrock anywhere from roughly 30 to 120 metres deep, depending on where the fractured rock holds water. We drill until we hit a steady supply, set steel casing to protect it, and record the final depth on your official Ontario Well Record.

Q. My well water has low pressure or runs dirty — do I need a new well?

Not always. A slow, silty or low-pressure well can often be restored through well rehabilitation — clearing the screen and bedrock fractures or replacing a worn pump — for far less than a new well. We’ll test and diagnose first, then recommend rehabilitation or replacement honestly.

Q. Can Packard test and treat my well water for iron, sulphur or bacteria?

Yes. We test well water for bacteria, hardness and minerals, and as an Excalibur Authorized Dealer we install treatment and filtration systems that target iron, sulphur smell, hardness and taste at the source — so the water is safe and pleasant at every tap.

Q. Do you install and service well pumps as well as drill?

We do. Packard Well Drilling installs, diagnoses and repairs Grundfos, Franklin Electric and Flexcon submersible pumps and pressure systems. Because we handle drilling and pumps together, there’s one company accountable for getting water to your home and keeping it flowing.
